Overnight Camp-in, Orienteering on Saturday, PLC Meeting on Sunday, Popcorn, and Manger Service this weekend

Good afternoon Troop 136! Overnight Camp-in at the church: I am looking forward to tonight when we meet at the church at 6 pm for a fun night of food and games. I will be picking up the pizza for the event. I have a number for those going on Saturday based on the turned in permission forms, but not sure of the number that will show up tonight. Remember, Class B tonight and Class A tomorrow if you are attending the Orienteering course. You can wear the Class A under your coat or jacket tomorrow. It will be cold, so dress in layers for the event. The high tomorrow will only be 43 degrees. Orienteering - leaving at 10 am: The following individuals will be going to the Orienteering course in Lancaster @ 2805 Old Logan Rd SE, Lancaster, OH 43130. We will plan to leave the church around 10 am. We will have breakfast at the church and the Scouts will be packing lunch that morning for the trip. The Scouts that are attending based on the permission slips are: James B, Zach B, Calvin C, Brady E, Cooper E, Shane F, Alex R, Jayden V and Noah W. The adults that I am aware that are attending are: John F, Todd M, Jason W and myself. Popcorn: Mr. Asendorf needs prize selections from popcorn for the following scouts: Kohta Weese, Will Wisenbarger. Calvin Clasby, Noah Wright and Anderson Hurt. Selections need to be made by the end of the Dec. 10 meeting. If you cannot make the meeting, please reach out to him at jasendorf@gmail.com or 614-746-3746. Manger Service Project: The service project that we completed for the church will be turned on for public display at 6 pm on Saturday night. Plan to be at the church to receive recognition and be able to show our support for the church. This will take place before the lighting of the Christmas Tree in downtown Grove City. PLC Meeting on Monday @ 3 pm: I briefly talked with the PLC on Tuesday night about the opportunity for them to learn more about their respective positions of leadership. The general consensus was they wanted to learn more about their positions. As part of the PLC, one of the items that I need to do as the Scoutmaster would be to help them prepare to be the leaders of the Troop. The PLC determines the level of our success as a Troop. The Scouts will be learning about how the PLC works through some games and interactive activities. We will start this at 3 pm on Sunday afternoon. The introduction course will take about two hours to complete and dinner will be provided for the Scouts. We will then have the PLC Meeting begin at 5 pm and finish by 6 pm just before the Committee Meeting. I plan to complete Module 1 this month: Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILS) Depending on how the Scouts enjoy it, we might complete Module 2 next month and Module 3 the third month. I will need at least one additional adult to be there with me for the PLC Meeting. If you can help, please let me know. Committee Meeting on Sunday at 6 PM: If you are a parent in the Troop and would like to learn more about the troop or just come and sit and watch Todd lead the Committee, you are welcome to come to the Committee Meeting at 6 pm. We need your input and you would be helping make decisions for your Scout. I encourage you to attend the meeting at 6 pm. We generally are done in less than an hour. Every person has a voice and time to talk about the items during the meeting and ask questions. Todd Miller would appreciate your input as we make decisions and plan events that affect the Troop. -- Phillip Freeman Scoutmaster, Troop 136 in Grove City, OH

Dorchester Info, Troop Elections, and Muskingum Summer Camp Good morning! 1. Tents and tarps If you have a tent or tarp, please plan to be there at 6:45 if possible. If you had a tent and/or tarp from the Tar Hollow and the previous campout at the Spring Camporee, please bring them ready to be turned in tonight. Please be sure they are clean. We will need them this weekend. The weather will be nice tonight before the meeting if you need to clean out the tents and tarps before you bring them back to them back to the troop. Please arrive about ten minutes early so that you can be checked back in with the tarp and tent. 2. Dorchester Participants Here is the current list of scouts attending Dorchester this weekend: 2019 Dorchester In this list, I started the seating assignments. This will not be like most trips where you can just hop in a vehicle before we leave. We will meet tonight for a few minutes to discuss the seating arrangements and other items. Since we are crossing the border, you will be assigned to a vehicle for the trip there and back. We can finish the tonight at the troop meeting along with the assigning of patrols for the weekend. 3. Items needed for Dorchester Below are the items that we will need for those going to Dorchester. Here are the items that we will need: 1. Passport or original birth certificate 2. Permission form for the troop Permission Slip - Dorchester May 10-12, 2019 3. Dorchester Consent letter to travel to Canada - See attached letter 4. Canadian Health Form - See attached 5. Scout Medical Form (Only Part A and part B completed for this trip, but some of you might need get a new one for summer camp so I attached A, B and C) 6. Medicine - Please bring any medicine along with dosage information with the scout. Please include in the original prescription bottles and/or packaging since we are crossing the border. They may want to look at the prescription medicine. The only new item on this list is the consent letter. The notary will not be at the meeting tonight, but said that if you stop by the HER building during the normal hours, she will sign the form for you. I was directed to the website by a parent in the troop. I recommend that you have both the permission slip and the consent letter notarized. I met with Kirk last night and they had a similar release form they used for the previous trip in 2016. 4. Muskingum Summer Camp I cannot believe summer camp is almost here again. Attached is the current list of participants. I will be making a payment this week for those scouts and adults on the list. Be sure to check with Mr. Baughman if you are not on the list so that you can pay for summer camp. If you confirm with Mr. Baughman that you are paid, I will pay the $260 for each scout to attend summer camp. I found out about the date last night when I met with Kirk. I guess the camp is still sending him emails. Adults - Last year we have had about 8-10 adults go to summer camp. If you are willing to go for a few days, half of the week or even all of the week, please let me know so that I can add you to the list of participants. In talking with Kirk last night, MVSR has been sending him the emails, but I was not part of the distribution list for summer camp. Kirk sent him the email that states that we have until Friday to make the payment for scouts going at the $260 rate. If possible, please let me know the dates that you will be attending. We will have our summer camp meeting on May 21st. 2019 Summer Camp - Muskingum Valley -- Phillip Freeman Scoutmaster, Troop 136 in Grove City, OH Troop 136 Axiom: "How do you eat an elephant? Troop Elections and campout this month

Items for this upcoming week to note.  Please read below.

1.      Our Troop Patrol Leader Council [PLC] will have its Fall Elections on this Tuesday night, 11/6 at our regular troop meeting.  All scouts are encouraged to be there and participate in this activity.  Scouts that are first class and above are asked to consider running for positions of responsibility of Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, or Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.  Second class scouts may run for Assistant Patrol Leaders. Other positions will be available that are not elected positions but appointed ones.  This includes Scribe, Quartermaster, Librarian, Webmaster, Historian, OA Representative and Chaplains Aid. Remember your  troop needs you to be there to leader it along. It is a boy lead organization and what you put into this is important in it success.
2.      We have our backpack trip coming up this next weekend – 11/9-11/11.  All those wanting to go need to have their permission slip into the troop by 11/6.  You need to plan for your own food and cooking on this outing.  As for tents,  you can use your own or barrow one of the troop tents.  ANY gear that you need from the troop must be made know on Tuesday so we can get it ready.  [this includes tents, tarps, backpacks, cooking equipment, etc.]
3.      For those going on the backpack trip, we will have a short shake down hike.  You are encouraged to bring your pack with all necessary gear [no food] to confirm you are ready.   It will just be a ½ - ¾  mile trek around the local church area to see how your back feels and if you have any issues with your gear.  This is a great opportunity to check out and make sure your prepared.  DON’T forget to WEAR A BELT ON this OUTING, it will keep your pants from falling down while you hike!  Believe me – it’s an issue and you need a belt.
4.      There will be an announcement regarding the upcoming change in the scoutmaster position.  Please plan to be present.

That is all for now – see you tomorrow night.

Sincerely,

Kirk Bohanan
